Rancho Bernardo Inn is tucked away in the hills of North San Diego, surrounded by mature trees, stone courtyards, an Italian fountain, manicured gardens, and rows of Italian cypress trees. The setting feels lush and private, more like an estate than a hotel, and offers plenty of options for any celebration.
Hazel and Jacob celebrated their Rancho Bernardo Inn wedding over three days in late March. The weekend began with traditional Indian pre-wedding ceremonies, followed by a black-tie Catholic wedding. The planning and floral teams put so much thought into every event, and it showed.

The Haldi was held on the garden terrace, where the design team filled the space with orange and yellow marigold garlands hanging from the trees. In the center, under a yellow-and-white striped canopy, Hazel and Jacob sat surrounded by beautiful floral arrangements.

Next came the Mehndi, and by the end of the evening, Hazel’s hands and forearms were decorated with intricate henna. You could see the henna through the rest of the weekend when she changed into the lace gown, and this detail tied both parts of the celebration together.

The Sangeet had a completely different feel. The room was draped in deep crimson velvet, rose petals covered the floor, and a custom H+J neon sign glowed red above the stage. This contrast with the bright, outdoor Haldi was intentional.
Hazel’s family and bridesmaids took to the stage with amazing, choreographed performances. The dance floor stayed full. It was a great night.

Hazel wore an off-the-shoulder lace gown with long sheer sleeves, a fitted shape, and a cathedral-length train. Jacob chose a classic black tux. Her bouquet was all white, with calla lilies, sweet peas, and hydrangeas. The bridesmaids wore champagne and ivory dresses. The ceremony was held on the lawn, framed by the property’s oak canopy and cypress trees, with guests shaded by white parasols.
Hazel had wanted documentary photography from the start. No staged moments, no cookie-cutter angles. The day delivered on that. Their portraits moved through the courtyard, along the paths, and through the cypress-lined walkways on the property.

The Ballroom was decorated with hanging greenery trailing from the ceiling above the crystal chandeliers. Tables were set in ivory linen with low arrangements of white hydrangeas, garden roses, calla lilies, and deep burgundy florals, with ribbed glass votives and pillar candles.
The black-and-white checkered dance floor stayed busy all night.

Rancho Bernardo Inn is one of San Diego’s top wedding venues, and for a weekend like Hazel and Jacob’s, it was the perfect setting. The garden courtyards, ballrooms, outdoor ceremony lawn, stone pathways, Italian fountain, and cypress-lined promenade, each with panoramic golf course views, have their own character. The entire property feels elegant and refined.
