Hummingbird Nest Ranch is tucked away in the Santa Susana Mountains, just a half-hour from Los Angeles, but it feels like you’ve entered another world as soon as you arrive. The Spanish villa-style buildings, bougainvillea climbing the stone walls, ornate gates, olive groves, and mountain views all around give the place a unique sense of history and character.
Mitch and Jordan put a lot of thought into their wedding, and you could feel it from the very start of the day.
Morning at the Ranch
The villa’s interior is genuinely one of a kind. The exposed wooden beams, terracotta tile floors, and old stone walls look amazing in photos and add a warmth you just don’t get in a typical bridal suite. In the morning, Jordan’s bridesmaids wore chocolate-colored satin sets and looked relaxed and happy as they helped her get ready.
And then there was the dress. Jordan wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown with off-the-shoulder satin, a dramatic cowl neckline, and a long train. It was truly a showstopper.
The First Look & Private Vows
Jordan had an emotional first look with her father in the villa’s grand corridor. After that, she and Mitch saw each other for the first time and decided to take a quiet moment together to exchange private vows before the ceremony.
Some of my favorite portraits were taken throughout the property, from the ornate gates to the vine-covered archways, to the grounds glowing in the late-afternoon light. Hummingbird Nest offers so many beautiful spots for photos.
The Ceremony
Mitch and Jordan got married at the Villa portion of Hummingbird Nest. Here, the ceremony space opens out to the mountains. The altar was surrounded by lush white flowers, hydrangeas and roses, with greenery trailing onto the terracotta tiles. Behind it all, the red bougainvillea on the villa walls and the rocky Santa Susana ridgeline made a stunning backdrop.
The energy of the moment was warm and emotional throughout. Mitch and Jordan are one of those couples where the love between them is obvious to everyone around them, and that read across the whole ceremony.
Elegant Hummingbird Nest Ranch Wedding Reception
The reception terrace at Hummingbird Nest is one of the best in Southern California. There’s a central stone fountain surrounded by long dinner tables, with string lights overhead and views of the valley and mountains in the distance. As the sun set and the light turned golden, the whole space changed. Farm tables were decorated with sage green runners, white flowers, and greenery down the center, with candles everywhere. The live band played at one end of the terrace, and the glossy black and white checkered dance floor was right in the middle.
Then came the highlight of the night. As the dancing started, every guest received a masquerade mask. The whole mood changed from black tie elegance during the day to something more playful and theatrical at night. It was a unique, personal touch, and the dance floor stayed packed because of it.
